KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — The High Court here has set three days, from June 2, next year to hear former Selangor mentri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s defamation case against news portal, The Malaysian Insider.
Datuk Nor Bee Ariffin fixed the date in chambers, during which the plaintiff was represented by counsel New Sin Yew, while the defendants, by counsel Seira Sacha.
New told reporters when met, that the court had also set May 5 for case management.
Abdul Khalid filed the suit on August 11, against www.themalaysianinsider.com CEO and editor, Jahabar Sadiq Abdul Kader; its Malay Language editor Amin Shah Iskandar; owner and administrator of the news portal, The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd; and TMIDOTCOM Sdn Bhd.
In his statement of claim, he alleged that the first defendant (Jahabar) had published defamatory and/or false statements in the commentary section on July 24, titled, “Going by Selangor ruler’s criteria, Khalid should quit as MB”.
He claimed that the same article was also published by the second defendant (Amin) in Malay, on the same date, titled, “Berasaskan Kriteria Sultan Selangor, Khalid wajar berundur sebagai MB”.
The plaintiff claimed the statements implied that he was a person who could not be trusted, unethical and unqualified to hold the post of Mentri Besar.
He alleged that the articles were published with malicious intent.
Abdul Khalid, who is also Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament, further alleged that The Malaysian Insider had also published a series of commentaries, from June 9 to July 24 this year, on his purported misconduct. — Bernama
