KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 — Former Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah has been appointed the new deputy chairman of the Election Commission (EC).
He succeeds Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, whose term of office ended on November 27 last year.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said in a statement today that the appointment of Mohd Hashim, 60, takes effect on September 5 until he attains the age of 66 in accordance with Clause (3) Article 114 of the Federal Constitution.
Mohd Hashim, who hails from Kota Baharu, was secretary-general of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry from November 11, 2010, until his mandatory retirement on August 31 this year. — Bernama
