PUTRAJAYA, Aug 30 — An auxiliary policeman has been remanded until Tuesday for allegedly allowing a passenger to carry objects resembling firearms onto a flight.
Sepang police chief ACP Mohd Yusoff Awang said the 29-year-old auxiliary policeman was arrested at KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2) at 3.30am today.
“We are investigating the case under Section 36 (1) of the Firearms Act 1960,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
On Wednesday, at 7.40pm, the suspect and six other auxiliary policemen checked a luggage of a foreign college student and found a replica of a bomb and cigarette lighters resembling a pistol and a dagger.
The student from Russia claimed that the objects were purchased from a shop in Sunway Pyramid as souvenirs from Malaysia.
The suspect then allowed the student to board the flight without lodging a police report.
“He only lodged a police report three days after recording of closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording of the incident spread.”
Mohd Yusoff added the police also contacted Interpol in Russia to identify the college student. — Bernama
