KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — Ten non-governmental organisations (NGOs) today lodged reports at two police district headquarters against an individual who has allegedly insulted the Sultan of Selangor through his status on Facebook.
The report made at the Dang Wangi police headquarters around noon was by seven NGOs, namely the Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM), 1Malaysia Malay Military Veterans Association (PVTM), Kelab Belia Angkatan Satria (Kebas), Yayasan Patriot, Pejuang Warisan Melayu Islam Malaysia (Pewaris), 1Malaysia Tourist Bus Drivers Association (Baspel) and Sekretariat Sahabat NGO 1Malaysia.
PPIM chief activist, Datuk Nadzim Johan said the action of the Facebook account owner by the name of Hu Long through the social media website was irresponsible and rude.
“As this country practises a constitutional monarchy system, the institution of Malay rulers must be respected by all parties,” he said when met by reporters after making the report, accompanied by about 20 members of the NGOs.
Nadzim said the seven NGOs urged the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate the matter and take stern action against the offending individual involved, as such action could jeopardise racial harmony in the country.
Meanwhile, Baspel president Nor Aizam Abd Kadir called on Malaysians to fly the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the country’s 57th Independence celebration to enhance the patriotic spirit.
At the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters, three NGOs, namely Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM), Pertubuhan Ikatan Usahawan Kecil dan Sederhana Malaysia (Ikhlas) and Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (Irimm) also lodged a report at 11.58am over the same Facebook posting.
MJMM president, Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah urged the police to immediately trace the culprit and take stern action against him. — Bernama
