BESUT, Aug 10 — The Education Ministry (KPM) will have 40,000 qualified English teachers through the Cambridge English Placement Test (CEPT) to help improve the command of the language among students.

Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said to date, 5,000 students from throughout the country had successfully taken the advanced training programme provided by the British Council, as provided for under the National Education Development Blueprint 2013-2025.

Those who had qualified were now eligible for grades C1 or C2, enabling them to teach English in schools, he told reporters here today.

Idris said that at present, 9,000 English teachers were and would be taking the course before sitting for the CEPT scheduled for October.

He added that the ministry was serious in its efforts to improve English among schoolchildren through various programmes. — Bernama
