MALACCA, July 6 — A teenager, believed to have been beaten up by his father earlier all because he wanted to get a job to help the family, was found dead in his room in Kampung Jaya, Alor Gajah today.

Alor Gajah District Deputy Police Chief Supt Abd Rahman Jid said the victim, Muhamad Hafiz Abd Ghani, 17, was reported to have had an argument with his father, 52, in their house at about 5pm yesterday.

“The victim had wanted to go to work but the father did not agree... the victim who normally does not talk back to his father was insistent in getting his wish, before an argument broke out between the two,” he told Bernama here today.

He said the victim, the eldest of 10 children, was then hit with a piece of wood, causing him to lose consciousness.

Abd Rahman said Muhamad Hafiz’s mother wanted to send him to the hospital for treatment but the father had refused, claiming it was not serious.

He said the victim’s mother, 38, tried to wake her son for the pre-dawn meal before starting to fast but Muhamad Hafiz did not wake up and again she tried to wake him up at about 10am.

Since there was no response, she suspected something was wrong and decided to lodge a police report.

“The mother then lodged a police report at the Alor Gajah station before the police came to the victim’s house and found him dead,” he said.

Initial investigations revealed that the victim had a swollen left arm and bruises on the body.

He said police were now looking for the victim’s father who had since gone missing since, to help facilitate investigations. — Bernama
