TELUK INTAN, May 25 — The DAP censured today the smear campaign against Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Mah Siew Keong that painted him as a sexual harasser in the run-up to the May 31 Teluk Intan by-election.
DAP Teluk Intan campaign director Tony Pua said his party was not behind the provocative photograph of Mah and called on the Facebook user, who had posted the picture, to delete the post and issue an apology.
“We strongly condemn smear tactics, regardless of whether they are against Barisan Nasional (BN) or Pakatan Rakyat (PR) candidates,” Pua told The Malay Mail Online today.
“Similarly, we expect BN leaders to condemn and stop dirty tactics like spreading fake pictures of Dyana,” he added.
Last Friday, posters featuring DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud’s image alongside a bikini-clad actress - with whom the 26-year-old shares a striking facial resemblance - were disseminated at predominantly Malay residential areas in Changkat Jong, including a mosque.
Gerakan Wanita national chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe criticised earlier today the smear campaign against Dyana Sofya and denied that her party was behind it.
She also revealed a picture showing Mah standing very close behind a woman, as if he were touching her intimately, that was posted on a Facebook page last night called “We Fully Support BN To Be Buried 2”.
The Facebook post on the photograph, which was written in Chinese characters, said: “Anson voters, do you need a person who’s a sexual harasser to be your representative?”
Tan further complained that posters of Gerakan president Mah, 53, have been defaced.
“We will protest with Gerakan on any defaced posters while at the same time request that our missing buntings, often replaced with BN ones, are also returned to their original position,” Pua said in response.
Dyana Sofya and Mah are contesting the Teluk Intan federal seat in Perak in a straight fight.
