KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 — The influential Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said today that it found no malpractices in the long delayed KLIA2 project because of the open tender process involved.
The head of the parliamentary committee Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed also said cost overruns at the new airport was partly due to changes in the immigration and security processing areas.
The Immigration Department had requested that the processing of domestic and international passengers be separated, which incurred an additional cost of RM300 million, he added.
He said the committee will produce a full report which could serve as a “lesson learnt” for the government and Malaysian Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
The Pulai MP said PAC had met and heard from all the parties involved in the KLIA2 project and would incorporate their views in its report.
However, he did not give a timeframe on when the report would be completed.
“It would take a long time for the report to complete as it is very lengthy,” he said.
In its meeting today, the PAC also met with the chief executive of KLIA Premier Holdings Sdn Bhd, Tan Sri Jamilus Hussein, the initial planner of KLIA2.
According to the PAC’s media statement, Jamilus had questioned the government’s decision to drop his company’s services despite its experience in building the country’s main international airport in Sepang.
PAC said in its statement however that it had asked MAHB to provide it a list of all consultants involved in the KLIA2 project, to examine their track record.
