Cops seize drugs, fake pistol in hotel raid

JOHOR BARU, April 25 — The police have detained a man in connection with the seizure of several plastic sachets of drugs, RM8,945 and a fake pistol at a hotel in Taman Mount Austin here on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old suspect was picked up at 3.45am.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said today, two boxes of ball-bearings meant for use in the fake firearm were also seized.

In a separate case, the police busted an illegal gambling syndicate with the arrest of a man and two women on the same day.

The suspects, aged between 40 and 50, were picked up at 5.35pm in a raid at Kampung Sungai Bunyi Hilir near Pontian.

Mohd Mokhtar said three computers, three laptops, three printers, seven facsimile machines and seven mobile phones, among others, were seized from the suspects.

“Our investigations revealed the gambling activities involved bets of about RM2.5 million a month,” he said, adding that the trio were remanded until Sunday to facilitate investigations. — Bernama
