GEORGE TOWN, March 7 — Police have yet to record the statement of the man who fell from Sultan Abdul Halim Muad’zam Shah Bridge on Wednesday afternoon.

Balik Pulau district police chief Supt Lai Fah Hin said the man was still not in a stable condition.

“We want to allow him to rest first before we talk to him,” he told The Malay Mail.

Police have withheld the man’s identity.

It is understood that he is the nephew of a deputy minister.

The man was heading towards the island when he fell off the bridge at 2.40pm.

Fishermen who saw him fall into the waters rushed to his aid before sending him to the nearby Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency base before he was transferred to Penang Hospital.

He is undergoing treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Police are investigating the case under Section 309 of the Penal Code for attempted suicide.
