KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 — Police have recommended criminal intimidation charges against the two men who offered a cash bounty for anyone who successfully photographed themselves slapping DAP MP Teresa Kok.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng who confirmed the recommendations added, however, that the investigation paper has been thrown back by prosecutors.
“The papers were sent back by the AG as there are a few details which need to be ironed out,” he was quoted as saying by The Star on its website today.
Gan said investigators will resubmit the paper soon.
On February, a group calling itself the “Council of Islamic NGO” held a protest here against a satirical video lampooning current events by the Seputeh MP, during which they had slaughtered two chickens before proceeding to smear the blood on a banner bearing pictures of Pakatan Rakyat leaders.
At the same event, the group also offered RM500 for anyone who was able to slap the DAP lawmaker and photographed themselves doing so. The bounty was later raised to RM1,200.
Opposition lawmakers had then demanded action against the group for actions that they described as “clearly criminal in nature”, before Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said no action was necessary.
