KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — The Malaysian Expressway Concessionaires Association accepted the government’s decision that there will be no toll rate hike this year and that RM400 million in compensation will be paid to the concessionaires involved in a bid to ease the burden of expressway users.
In a statement today, the association said that it really appreciated the government’s concern over the concessionaires’ financial obligations.
“The association accepted the government’s decision and totally understood that it was made as a measure to tackle the rising cost of living. The decision will also avoid possibilities of certain quarters taking advantage of the issue to raise the prices of goods and services,” the statement said.
The statement said with the compensation, the concessionaires involved could not only fulfill their financial obligations, but also continue providing the best service to expressway users.
Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that there would be no toll rate hikes this year and that RM400 million in compensation would be paid to expressway concessionaires in the Klang Valley which were supposed to raise their toll rates.
He made the announcement after chairing the meeting of the special committee tackling the rising cost of living in Putrajaya. — Bernama
