KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — Perak police today denied reports in several websites that claimed 250 police personnel from the state had been sent to Penang following the incident where molotov cocktails were hurled at a church compound in Lebuh Farquhar, George Town yesterday.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said in the Perak Police Facebook website that no police personnel from the Ipoh District Police Headquarters nor the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters would be sent to Penang for any reason.
In the incident at 1.30am, the suspect who was riding a motorcycle hurled the molotov cocktails from outside the church’s perimeter fence before fleeing.
Penang Police Chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi was reported as saying that police had recorded statements from the church’s caretaker who saw the incident and that the case was being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said that his ministry was prepared to cooperate with the police and the National Security Council (NSC) to coordinate all action necessary on the incident. — Bernama
