PADANG BESAR, Jan 26 — Thailand has reinforced security at Danok and Sadao following the bombing incidents in the two areas close to the Malaysian border of Bukit Kayu Hitam last month.
Datuk Bandar Danok Kecha Benjakarn said the number of guard posts and CCTVs at every street in the two districts have been increased.
He said to prevent a repeat of the incidents, Thai authorities also adopted stringent monitoring and inspection on the traffic flow into the country.
“Because of the incidents, visitors feared to come here. But they do not have to worry now as almost all the entry points have their respective guard posts and more than 50 CCTVs mounted, with more to be installed soon,” he said in a media conference through an intepreter here yesterday night.
Last Dec 22, five series of bombings occurred at Padang Besar, in Danok and Sadao which claimed the lives of two people and injured 25 others.
Kecha said tourists to Danok dropped by 30 per cent but as of last month, the visitors had begun arriving again.
“To attract visitors, various activities have been organised by the local government such as the superbike meeting. The participation by 500 enthusiasts is a good sign that visitors feel safe about coming here,” he said.
He said the superbike meeting was participated by six countries, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia. — Bernama
