SUBANG, Dec 10  — Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam today advised flood evacuees to adhere to the instructions of the medical officers assigned to relief centres to prevent getting infected by diseases.  He said one health officer had been assigned to every relief centre housing 1,000 evacuees.

The officer would guide the evacuees in terms of food and drinks and ensure a secure environment, he told reporters after attending the presentation of RM500,000 by the Sime Darby Foundation for an epilepsy surgery programme at the Ara Damansara Medical Centre, here.

“The health officer will visit the relief centre daily. In terms of health, we are already ready with our SOP (standard operating procedure) and protocol to ensure that we prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases during floods,” he said.

On the collapse of the ceiling at Serdang Hospital staff quarters yesterday, Subramaniam said: “We are trying to verify this report because according to the hospital, no such thing happened. But we will check.  “I have instructed the hospital and the director of engineering in my ministry to do daily inspections of the ceiling of Serdang Hospital and give the report to me and we’ll do a replacement when the need arises.”  — Bernama
