IPOH, Nov 20 — Perak police recorded the highest volume of assets seized from an individual at RM1.2 million after they arrested a 39-year-old man suspected of single-handedly processing and selling RM4 million heroin for the past 10 months.
State Narcotics CID chief ACP Roslan Abdul Wahid said the married man was detained under Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985, at his house in Kampung Rapat here on November 16.
“The man rented houses for the activity and moved often to prevent detection. He also frequently changed his cars. This is the state’s largest seizure in the past two years,” he said here today.
Apart from RM190,200 in cash, a terrace house, a flat and seven vehicles of various makes including Mercedes-Benz, Toyota Caldina and Honda Odyssey were also seized, he added.
Roslan said the suspect confessed to processing 9.071 kilogrammes of heroin twice a month worth almost RM200,000 each without the involvement of any syndicate.
Roslan said the heroin was sold outside Perak in large quantities to big time drug traffickers and the raw materials used were obtained from a neighbouring country.
“The suspect does not smoke cigarettes or take drugs. His objective was solely to make money,” he said, adding that so far investigations showed that his wife was neither involved nor aware of her husband’s activities.
The suspect was also believed to own other valuable properties and involved in money laundering activities through several businesses, he said.
“The suspect will be remanded for 60 days to facilitate investigations,” he said.
He said the suspect was detained following two other arrests of a man and a woman in possession of heroin processing materials at an apartment in Gunung Semanggol, Bagan Serai in the middle of this year. — Bernama
