NUSAJAYA, Nov 12 — Johor has drawn up a strategic long-term plan for its public transport system with the cooperation of the Iskandar Regional Development Authority and Public Land Transport Commission (SPAD).
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the plan would focus on research, construction and improvement of public transport infrastructure, and promoting and instilling consumer awareness.
“The long term plan is to reduce dependence on personal vehicles besides providing a more efficient and modern public transport system,” he said in reply to Lau Chin Hoon (BN-Pemanis) at the third meeting of the first term of the Johor State Legislative Assembly here today.
Meanwhile, the Environment Department monitored 27 main river basins in Johor last year to gauge the pollution level.
State Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the water quality in 40 rivers was good while that in 33 rivers was fair or mildly polluted, and bad or polluted in 17 rivers.
“Efforts are ongoing to resolve the problem, such as river cleanliness campaigns through sign boards at strategic locations near the rivers,” he said in reply to Ayub Jamil (BN-Rengit). — Bernama
