DUNGUN, Nov 8 — A senior citizen was killed, while three others were badly hurt when the car they were travelling in collided with a stationary lorry at Km14.5 Jalan Dungun-Bukit Besi, near Kampung Delong, today.

The dead are car driver, Abdullah Muhammad, 64, and the injured are Mat Saman Hassan, 74, his wife, Halimah Embong, 55, and their neighbour Senik Hussain, 65.

Abdullah from Paka died on the spot, while the injured victims were rushed to the Dungun Hospital before being rerouted to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for treatement.

Dungun District police chief Supt Ahmad Zailani Yaacub said it was raining heavily when the mishap occurred at 4 pm.

He said Tenaga National Berhad (TNB) contractors were installing cables in the area and had parked a three-tonne lorry on the road facing the opposite direction.

“The accident is believed to have occurred when the victim’s car hit the warning sign on the road before colliding with the front of the lorry parked in the middle of the lane,” he said when contacted. — Bernama
