KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 — No passenger was hurt when a KTM commuter train derailed near the Rawang station this morning, an official from the public-listed train company has said.

The three-car train, which was carrying 120 passengers, derailed at KM354.88 at about 10am today, Senior Manager for commuter services at Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) Shahril Sahak told The Malay Mail Online.

"Due to this incident, services affected are the commuter train on the Rawang - Tanjung Malim route and also the ETS train between Ipoh and KL.

"What happened now is that we are transferring passengers from the Serendah station to Rawang and Rawang to Serendah by shuttle bus," he said.

He added that the company has prepared 15 buses to transport the passengers, which he said is sufficient for the 10-minute journey.

Shahril said was uncertain on how long it would take for the commuter train to resume its services.

"The relevant departments are on site to assess the incident," he said, adding a that investigation is underway to find out the cause of the accident.

The derailment may add to the inconvenience of travellers as many Malaysians are expected to take advantage of the long weekend to return to their hometowns with the Deepavali festival tomorrow and the Awal Muharram public holiday on November 5.
