KUANTAN, Oct 20 — Ten incumbent division heads including five who won uncontested were retained in the Pahang Umno divisional elections.

The four divisions which would helmed by new heads are Jerantut, Indera Mahkota, Paya Besar and Maran.

The five incumbent heads re-elected were for the Cameron Highlands, Kuantan, Kuala Krau, Bera and Raub divisions.

According to Pahang Umno Election Committee chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Jabbar Ibrahim, the five incumbents who won uncontested were in the Pekan, Rompin, Temerloh, Bentong and Lipis divisions.

“The election in 14 divisions in Pahang proceeded smoothly without any disruptions or untoward incidents in which 7,469 delegates voted while 307 were absent,” he told reporters here last night.

He said for the election for Umno vice-presidents, all 14 divisions in the state chose the incumbents namely Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

The five division heads who won uncontested were from Pekan (Datuk Seri Najib Razak), Bentong (Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob), Rompin (Datuk Seri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis), Temerloh (Datuk Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin) and Lipis (Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad).

In Indera Mahkota, a six-cornered fight for the division head post ended with a new face, Datuk Mustaffar Kamal Abdul Hamid emerging victor.

Mustaffar Kamal, who is the Pahang State Farmers’ Organisation chairman,

defeated five other candidates including incumbent Datuk Mohd Hazmi Yusoff.

The four other candidates were Shahrum Zainuddin, Ngah Ismail, Abdul Rahim Abas and Mahassan Husain.

In Kuantan, incumbent Datuk Wan Adnan Wan Mamat beat two challengers, Ab Mutalib Shamsuddin and Bahuri Geran.

In Paya Besar, incumbent Datuk Ahmad Tajuddin Sulaiman lost to Datuk Abdul Manan Ismail who is also the Paya Besar MP.

In Maran, Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Ismail Abdul Muttalib defeated two other candidates Muhamad Abdullah and Ismail Mat Resat.

For the Kuala Krau division, Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said beat challenger Nik Affandy Nik Abdul Rashid.

In Raub, incumbent Datuk Shahiruddin Ab Moin defeated Mohd Ghazali Kamaruzaman.

In Cameron Highlands, incumbent Datuk Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail defeated Wan Rohaimin Wan Mustapha.

In Bera, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob beat Datuk Mohamad Azizan Che Omar for the division head post.

In Jerantut, its MP Ahmad Nazlan Idris beat incumbent Tan Sri Tengku Azlan Sultan Abu Bakar. – Bernama
