DUNGUN, Oct 13 — A snatch thief who has been targeting women motorcyclists and pedestrians for the past three months in Dungun was detained in Ops Cantas, two days ago.

The arrest of the 27-year-old suspect in Kampung Alor Tembesu is expected to solve 10 snatch theft cases in the district.

Dungun Police Chief Supt Ahmad Zailani Yaacub said police detained the suspect who acting in a suspicious manner while they were patrolling the area.

“We found two wallets and two mobile phones, believed to have been stolen by the suspect from Kampung Alor Tembesu. Police identified the suspect through statements from victims who said they were attacked by a man on a red Honda EX5,” he told a news conference, here today.

Ahmad Zailani said police also confiscated a motorcycle used by the suspect, 12 handbags, 12 purses, seven mobile phones as well as identification cards and driving licences that belonged to his victims, from the suspect’s house.

The suspect, who tested positive for drugs, and who had a past record for drug possession, is now remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations. — Bernama
