JOHOR BARU, Aug 30 — A jobless man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with murdering a beauty salon operator, two weeks ago.

Toh Kian Peng, 37, was charged with murdering Liew Oi Mei, 39, with a knife at Cinderella Beauty Centre, at Jalan Indah 1/1, Taman Bukit Indah, here at around 11.30am on Oct 17.

Toh, who is married with a daughter, faces the mandatory death sentence, if convicted.

No plea was recorded from Toh who just kept silent after the charge was read out to him in Mandarin by the court interpreter.

Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias ordered that Toh be referred to a hospital for pyschiatric evaluation and set Sept 30 for re-mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Afif Ali appeared for the prosecution while Toh was represented by counsel Muhammad Ashraff Mohd Diah. – Bernama
