MALACCA, Aug 11 — Three people drowned and one person was slightly injured after the car they were travelling in skidded and plunged into a river along Jalan Ayer Keroh Lama in Ayer Keroh here early today, police said.

State Public Order and Traffic chief Supt Ahmad Adnan Basri said the dead were identified as Chong Jun Wen, 19, who had driven the car, Wong Wei Hao, 22, and Ng Kee Kang, 20.

The fourth person, Liew Yu Yang, 20 was injured in the right leg, he said in a statement.

Ahmad Adnan said Chong was driving the car towards Jalan Tun Razak at about 3.30am when it skidded after a bend near the Bistari mini stadium and plunged into the river. Chong, Wong and Ng died on the spot.

“The bodies of Chong, Wong and Ng were sent to the Malacca Hospital. Liew was also sent there for treatment,” he said.

Ahmad Adnan said all of them hailed from Parit Keliling, Asahan, Jasin, and were believed to be returning home when the accident occurred.

A spokesman of the Ayer Keroh Fire Station, located about 100 metres from the scene of the accident, said the bodies were removed by a scuba squad. – Bernama
