KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — Proton’s new e.MAS 5 electric vehicle has achieved 1,607 bookings in just 24 hours, boosted by a major social media launch campaign.

The launch livestream, held on Oct 4 at Proton e.MAS Nilai, was broadcast across eight TikTok channels and one Facebook page.

It attracted more than 572,000 live viewers and has since exceeded one million total views, signalling strong interest nationwide.

Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET) chief executive officer Zhang Qiang said the company is committed to making EVs widely accessible in Malaysia.

“With the e.MAS 5, we’re turning the vision of affordable electric mobility into reality,” Zhang said.

The e.MAS 5, priced between RM60,000 and RM80, is Malaysia’s first EV positioned as an entry-level option for mass-market buyers.

Proton says the car combines everyday practicality with advanced features, including spacious interiors, rear-wheel drive and integrated charging updates.

Malaysians can reserve the model with a RM99 booking fee at dealerships or online, with exclusive perks for early customers.
