PARIS, Oct 1 — White and neon colours, voluminous designs, sheer tulle and embroidery detail illuminated the runway in the Valentino Spring/Summer collection during Paris Fashion Week.

The Italian fashion house showcased feminine looks that ranged from the simplicity of a shirt dress to the complexity of an assymetrical pleated gown.

Held at the Invalides monument, the show took place on Sunday at the same time Parisians were paying tribute to former French President Jacques Chirac, who died last week and was lying in state in another part of the complex.

American singer Camila Cabello and British fashion icon Naomi Campbell were among celebrity guests at the show.

Catwalk star Adut Akech opened the show in an all-white outfit with a simple poplin dress and flat rope sandals.

“By subtracting colour, shape and volumes come to the fore”, the brand said in a statement. Creative chief Pierpaolo Piccioli’s bouffant sleeves and oversized designs, its typical features, were highlighted by this lack of colour.

Piccioli’s blank canvas turned gradually from white to soft hues and a splash of fluorescent colour. Tropical prints inspired by the paintings of Henri Rousseau dominated other looks. — Reuters
