SINGAPORE, Oct 22 — Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) has stood by its clinical team after a woman accused hospital staff of mistreating her during her stay earlier this month.

CNA reported that in a Facebook statement on Tuesday, the hospital said it was aware of online posts by the patient, who claimed her treatment at the hospital was “insensitive and inappropriate”.

“We take the allegations seriously,” the hospital said, adding that the team’s actions were guided by its duty to ensure the patient’s safety and well-being.

“Our team acted swiftly, responsibly and out of genuine concern to protect the patient under the circumstances,” it said.

The woman alleged in a series of Facebook posts that she had been restrained and forcibly injected with an unknown substance on October 10 while warded at the hospital.

She also claimed she was denied contact with her husband and later sent to the Institute of Mental Health against her will.

She said about 10 people — including hospital staff and auxiliary police officers — had been involved in the incident.

The woman lodged a police report on October 18 and posted a photo of the report on Facebook, accusing those involved of unlawful restraint, inhumane treatment and violating her rights as a patient.

In its post, TTSH said incidents like this “can be misunderstood when taken out of their full context” and voiced concern over the online posts naming one of its staff members.

“While we respect the right of individuals to share their experiences, we are concerned about the representation of events and the naming of our staff member online,” the hospital said.

“Our healthcare workers serve with professionalism, compassion and integrity, and we will not tolerate harassment or false accusations directed at them.”

The hospital said it remains in touch with the patient and her family.

Singapore police confirmed that a report had been lodged over the matter.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital declined to comment further.
