JOHOR BARU, Jan 17 —The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers from the Kluang branch today detained a staff member of a school in Johor over alleged abuse of power to obtain supply and maintenance contracts about eight years ago.
Anti-graft investigators also detained and arrested a former principal from the same school to assist in the probe.
According to sources, the two male suspects, aged 41 and 60, were detained at the Kluang MACC office between 11am and 11.30am today after they came to give their statements to investigators.
It is understood that in 2015 to last year, the staff had abused his position to obtain supply and maintenance contracts at the school for a company that he has an interest in.
At the same time, the former principal of the school is also said to have a shared intention of approving the works to the company involved.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
The particular section of the Act probes allegations of power abuse when a person who is a member of a public or government body uses his position or the office in making a decision or taking action for the benefit of himself, his relative or associate.
The suspects were later released on MACC bail.
