Wisma Putra: Malaysia strongly condemns Turkey’s Diyarbakir car bomb blast incident

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 16 — Malaysia strongly condemns the car bombing incident at Turkey’s south-eastern province of Diyarbakir, near the Syrian border, today, wounding eight police officers and one civilian.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) in a statement said Malaysia calls for the perpetrators of the atrocious act to be swiftly brought to justice.

"So far, there is no report received of Malaysian involved in the incident.

"The Embassy of Malaysia in Ankara and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Istanbul is closely monitoring the development and actively liaising with local authorities for more information.

"Malaysia expresses its deepest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families who have lost their loved ones in this incident, as well as to the Government and the people of Turkey,” said the statement.

All Malaysians in Turkey, particularly in Diyarbakir, are urged to keep abreast of the latest development, take due precautions and adhere to travel advisories from local authorities.

Malaysian citizens residing in Turkey are also requested to register with the Malaysian Embassy in Ankara or the Consulate General of Malaysia in Istanbul.

A car parked on a roadside exploded in southeastern Turkey just as a bus transporting police officers was passing by, wounding eight police officers and one civilian, according to Anadolu Agency (AA).

However, there was no immediate claim of responsibility over the incident. — Bernama
