SINGAPORE, March 2 — Start packing your umbrella in the bag again as you head out, with more showers forecasted in the next two weeks as compared to the last fortnight.

A weather update by the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) yesterday said thundery showers are forecast mostly in the afternoon on seven to nine days over the next two weeks.

This is “arising mainly from daytime heating of land areas”, said the MSS.

It added that the showers are likely to extend into the evening on some of those days.

In addition, a weak monsoon surge could affect the South China Sea and the surrounding region in the latter half of the fortnight.

“The surge is likely to bring windy conditions with passing showers and cooler temperatures to Singapore on a few days,” said the weatherman.

The MSS said the daily temperature on most days over the next two weeks is expected to range between 23°C and 33°C.

February saw the onset of the dry phase of the Northeast Monsoon season, “where almost all parts of Singapore received well below-normal rainfall”, noted the MSS.

Last month, the lowest rainfall of 17mm (87 per cent below average) was recorded in eastern Singapore, while rainfall was highest at Choa Chu Kang where 148.2mm (4 per cent above average) was recorded.

As a result of the dry weather, the daily maximum temperature ranged between 29.4°C and 35.1°C, and the daily minimum temperature ranged between 22.0°C and 25.2°C in the country, said the MSS.
