SEPT 10 — I read the news today that Gerakan had withdrawn its case over hudud in Kelantan in the Court of Appeal.
The reasons given were technical in nature and that the party has to settle the matter in Federal Court. So, how many cases did you all file? Why can’t you do it properly in court?
Gerakan had previously claimed it would fight to defend the Federal Constitution. It said that the hudud laws in Kelantan are unconstitutional.
When Gerakan first filed its case against hudud early this year, I was quite impressed that the party was willing to go against UMNO and uphold the Federal Constitution. I thought I saw some hope in Gerakan after their dismal performance in the last two general elections.
Now, I got to eat my words. It is no surprise why the people in Penang rejected Gerakan as a hopeless party and good for nothing.
If Gerakan didn’t have the expertise to fight the hudud laws in court, then please don’t do it. Let others who are more sincere or have the expertise to do it.
This is the second blunder Gerakan has done over this case. I remember reading when the High Court dismissed the case as “premature”. Now, it voluntary withdraws the appeal on this case.
Did the lawyers in Gerakan realise the implication of the withdrawal of their appeal? It is as good as telling the people that we concede defeat on hudud.
I suggest Gerakan sack all the lawyers who are representing them at this moment. Get proper lawyers to represent you all in future. I once read somewhere that the ex-judge Gopal Sri Ram was supposed to represent Gerakan in this case. What happen to him? Did he actually advise Gerakan and cause all these blunders?
Please Gerakan... this case is not about politics or personal glory. It is also not a test case for your Gerakan lawyers to get cheap publicity. This case involves the constitutional rights of Malaysians.
My sincere advice to Gerakan: Please get the right legal experts to handle your case.
I also pray that you won’t betray Malaysians by withdrawing the Federal Court case to please your master UMNO.
Your blunder or betrayal will affect Malaysians!
