APRIL 23 — Politics and the corporate world are rife with covetous, egocentric, manipulative and amoral individuals, often plotting subterfuge and plotting their foes’ downfall. Malaysia is not devoid of this. I recently spoke out against the Taman Medan protest and how abhorred I was that this incident is pulling us down into the depths that Malaysia can not return. However, it is apparent that whilst social media and various news outlets continue to discuss this episode, other more pertinent issues take a back seat.
One of these issues that I speak of is of course the endless questions pertaining to 1MDB as I am rather confused as to what this entity is as much as everyone is. Could 1MDB be classified as a rogue company? The level of secrecy and lack of transparency with regards to this entity does warrant it to be called such.
However, 1MDB is only the tip of an iceberg that can result in catastrophe. The Taman Medan incident is reminiscent of events that transpired in 1969. Yes, that very same event that the Right Wingers vehemently remind us will happen again.
Could it happen again? Yes.
Can we stop it ? Yes
How?
I have always reminded my readers and friends that we need to find a common goal and to adhere to our Federal Constitution and the Rukunegara. Malaysia today is rife with questions more than answers.
There is a disconnect between the politicians that we the people have voted in. Once in power, their egos take over and instead of championing the policies that will benefit the citizens of this land, they champion their own cause so they won’t lose their placement within their respective parties.
The world is forever evolving whilst here in Malaysia we are stuck in a time warp. We are still stuck in the 70’s and are sliding down a slippery wet slope. Communities around us are becoming insular.
Misdeeds in the political world are normally laced with serious consequences. Recently, the South Korean Prime Minister tendered his resignation amidst a corruption scandal. Any scandal in any developed political arenas will result in the accused resigning from office or face impeachment. That being said, we Malaysians must be a forgiving lot. We often forgive our Elected Representatives for their blunders whether it comes from a misquote, inflammatory statements, scandals.
What we are interested in are what car he or she drives, what watches they wear, who they sleep with and if they are Muslim and drink alcohol we harp on that issue constantly. So let us forget about their lack of professionalism why don’t we?
My sarcasm is deliberate. We, the Malaysian people deserve better. We should tell our leaders and our Representatives enough is enough. Get on with your work, lest we kick you out. Ask them, how are we to move forward?
What policies can you bring to the table to move our nation forward?
What is your short, medium and long-term plans?
You are beholden to us who voted you in and not the other way around.
It is said that the leaders of a people often reflect the people.
The leaders now do not reflect me, do they reflect you fellow Malaysians?
