JUNE 24 — The Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM) is disappointed that the Federal Court has refused leave for the Herald newspaper to appeal against the decision of the Court of Appeal.

The fact that the Federal Court bench was divided is a clear indication that there were serious issues that needed to be heard by the Federal Court at a full hearing, and that leave ought to have been granted.

As yesterday’s decision only relates to the Herald newspaper, the CCM takes the position that the Bahasa Malaysia-speaking Christian community can continue to use the word “Allah” in its’ prayer and worship.
