KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Malaysians are one of the most cost-conscious and avid technologically inclined travellers in Asia, said Brand Expedia.

The global travel company in its “Global Flight and Hotel Etiquette Study 2018” revealed that 97 per cent of Malaysian travellers considered price an important factor for air travel booking, when considering the total cost of flights.

“Reflecting the wise spending behaviour of Malaysians even further, when it comes to hotel bookings, they also weigh price as most important (74 per cent), followed by complimentary Wi-Fi (71 per cent) and location (63 per cent),” said the survey.

Other price-conscious nations include Brazil, Canada, the United States and Singapore.

Brand Expedia Asia’s Regional Head of Communications, Lavinia Rajaram said of all the extrinsic factors affecting Malaysians’ flight and hotel etiquette, budget seems to take up the biggest chunk.

In the recent “2017 Expedia Vacation Deprivation Study”, she said affordability issues were the primary reasons cited for not taking sufficient vacations among Malaysians, and hence when they do, the total cost of flight and accommodation does weigh in heavily.

Besides the booking and flying pattern of travellers globally, the study also highlighted some general behaviour of travellers that affects others.

When it comes to accommodation globally, dirty rooms, general displeasure of room state and noisy neighbours are reasons travellers would ask for a room change.

For Malaysians, what makes them demand a room change is when it gets too cold or hot — a frustration shared equally by those from Singapore, India and Brazil.

Malaysian travellers also enjoyed a good sleep in-flight, followed by in-flight entertainment and listening to music.

As for the choice of hotels, Malaysians would choose to stay in a hotel equipped with Wi-Fi, complimentary toiletries and freebies. — Bernama
