LOS ANGELES, March 6 — Thrill seekers who are getting bored with ‘normal’ rollercoaster rides can now look forward to the addition of virtual reality (VR) to Six Flags’ rides.

Six Flags plans to add a VR option to its rollercoasters for those who want to ramp up the excitement and don’t think real thing is terrifying enough.

Those who opt to use the headsets, which carry no extra fee, will be able to watch a themed video while riding two existing rides — the Superman ride and the New Revolution ride — at nine Six Flags parsk.

If you feel like stepping into a superhero’s shoes, the VR option at the Superman ride will make it appear as if you are flying around Metropolis alongside the man himself.

The other VR ride is an update to Six Flags’ New Revolution ride, offering a storyline of flying a high-tech fighter plane to defend the earth from a ship full of hostile aliens.

You’ll also be able to fire virtual guns while the cars are ascending a ride (usually the ‘boring’ part of the ride).

The VR experience will come via a Samsung Gear VR headset incorporating a Galaxy smartphone, and the display will be kept in sync with the ride through a Bluetooth link to a device on the train itself, with each rider seeing individual video matched to their position on the train and the position of the train on the track.

The headsets, which will be cleaned after every use, will also be modified to ensure that it does not fly off during the ride.

Now that’s what we can an interesting application of VR!
