LONDON, Dec 15 ― Not many days from now, the planet will bid farewell to 2015 and welcome 2016 with open arms. We're taking a world tour of the big cities where the New Year is a major cause for celebration. Let's take a look at London in the UK.

The UK capital celebrates New Year on the banks of the River Thames, opposite the Palace of Westminster. Unfortunately, since 2014 visitors need a ticket to watch the spectacular firework show above Big Ben. This decision was taken last year to ensure spectator safety. All the tickets have now been snapped up. The show begins at 5pm and ends at 2am.

The place to be: London Eye, The Queen's Walk

Watch it at home: Those unfortunate souls who were unable to get a ticket will be able to watch the show on the BBC One TV channel, which broadcasts it live.

Practical tips: Various bridges linking north and south London will be closed from 2pm to ensure visitor security and that the event runs smoothly. Some roads will also be closed to vehicles and cyclists. Public transport will be free from 11.45pm to 4.30am.
