MACAU, Nov 6 — Macau’s Studio City is the latest of many resorts to open in the city famed for its gambling.

The new building features a giant figure-8 Ferris wheel in its centre, the first of its kind in the world.

The Ferris wheel, named Golden Reel, is built between Studio City’s two towers and goes up to 130 metres above the ground.

The number eight is an auspicious number in the Chinese culture and is often seen as a symbol of fortune.

However, the building’s design, termed as ‘Art Deco meets Gothan City’, was inspired not by Chinese culture, but by Hollywood, according to a statement released by Studio City.

The Golden Reel was formed in “traditional Hollywood blockbuster movie fashion when not one, but two flaming asteroids crashed through the building facade in tandem to create an almost perfect figure-8 form,” the statement said.

The wheel features 17 steampunk-themed cabins which can seat up to 10 people each.

The resort has also announced a Warner Bros-themed amusement centre, a 5,000-seat entertainment venue, a 4D Batman simulator ride and a magic show by illusionist Franz Harary.

Pacha, a franchise of the famous Ibiza club, will also have a spot in Studio City.
