SINGAPORE, June 5 — Singapore Airlines (SIA) will consider resuming non-stop flights to New York and Los Angeles, if it can find the right aircraft for the ultra-long haul routes.

The news came as part of an interview that CEO Goh Choon Phong gave to the Wall Street Journal that was published yesterday.

The carrier is seeking to fight off competition and maintain its position as the dominant airline group in Asia.

Goh added, however, SIA would continue to be selective about its routes, due to the current economic downturn in the United States and Europe.

SIA ended non-stop flights to New York and Los Angeles at the end of 2013, following sharp gains in oil prices.
