SINGAPORE, April 25 — Travel Malaysia 2014 officially kicked off today at the Singapore Expo Convention & Exhibition Centre to attract more Singaporean travellers to Malaysia.
The three-day fair in conjunction with the launch features more than 100 booths and close to 40 exhibitors. They include express bus ticketing agents, travel agents, resort operators, homestay and property owners, and others in the tourism industry.
“This event creates opportunities to meet with members of the Malaysian tourism industry to explore new business opportunities, expand existing ones, formulate joint packages, plan event-related activities to further help develop the industry for mutual benefit,” said Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board deputy director-general (promotions) Datuk Azizan Noordin.
The fair organised by IBT Investment Ltd is supported by the Express & Excursion Bus Association (EEBA) in cooperation with Tourism Malaysia.
“Travel Malaysia” is a consumer-driven initiative by EEBA since 2005 to increase tourist arrivals to Malaysia during the mid-year school holidays.
It is part of EEBA’s ongoing effort to increase interstate travel via express buses and coaches to Malaysia.
Of the 25.72 million visitors to Malaysia from January to December 2013, 51 per cent, or 13.18 million, were from Singapore. This was an increase of 1.3 per cent in 2012.
An estimated one-third of this number, or about 4.34 million, are visitors who travel via land transport to Malaysia annually. — Bernama
