LOS ANGELES, March 12 ― A new poll reveals a few interesting findings in the preferences of American travellers in 2014, including gender and demographic divisions that reveal the favorite destination of men and the celebrities Americans want to travel with the most.

According to a Travelocity survey that polled 1,004 adults in the US, the most sought-after vacation is the relaxing kind, particularly among women, 55 per cent of whom said they’d prefer the beach or a spa holiday.

The most popular destination among younger millennials ages 18-34 is Europe, while nearly one-third (27 per cent) of respondents said they prefer to take a staycation within the US.

A quarter of male respondents seem to harbour travel fantasies of the wild, arid Outback, as Australia was identified as a desired destination for men.

And if given the opportunity to travel with a celebrity, about 40 per cent agreed they’d take a funnyman or woman like Ellen DeGeneres of Jimmy Fallon along.

Interestingly, the survey also reveals an economic gap as the same question yielded different answers among luxury travellers, defined as household incomes making more than US$100,000 (RM328,974) a year: 21 per cent of these respondents said they want to go on vacation with someone “smart” like Mark Zuckerberg or Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer. ― AFP-Relaxnews
