KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — The national men’s doubles pair, Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King, failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Badminton World Championships in India when they lost to the home pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty early this morning.
In the action held at the Indra Gandhi Indoor Stadium, the national pair started well when they won the first set 23-21.
However, the momentum failed to continue when they lost the next two sets 19-21, 17-21, thus seeing Arif-Roy King still fail to win in five meetings so far.
The defeat of Arif-Roy King saw Malaysia now have two representatives in the quarter-finals when former world champions, Aaron Chia-Soh Woi Yik and professional doubles, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, successfully advanced to the top eight. — Bernama
