KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — National junior shuttler  Cheam June Wei failed in his bid to win his first international title after losing in the final match in the Austrian Open Badminton Tournament in Vienna, Austria yesterday (early today Malaysian Time).

The 21-year-old put up a gallant fight against reigning Commonwealth Games champion,  Kashyap Parupalli, of India before losing 21-23 and 14-21 in the match held at Wiener Stadthalle, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website.

June Wei received €1,012 (RM4,876) for his feat.

Earlier, he defeated teammate, Leong Jun Hao 21-17 and 21-14 in the semi-finals match. — Bernama
