KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — The High Court has issued a house arrest order for Datuk Seri Najib Razak after his RM50 million fine in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case was settled today.

Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, a member of Najib’s legal team, confirmed the payment was made by Umno to the High Court registry this morning, according to The Star.

“As of this morning, the RM50 million fine before Najib has been paid by Umno to the High Court,” he said during the press conference.

“As a result, the court has issued, pursuant to the royal pardon, the order of house arrest.”

Farhan said the legal team has obtained the house arrest order and will deliver it to Kajang Prison.

He noted that further processes remain before the former prime minister can be released from prison.

The payment was preceded by an announcement from Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who said this morning that the party had completed all payment processes to the court.

In a media statement, Asyraf Wajdi said the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund, launched on September 18, had reached its collection target and was sufficient.

He announced that the party had officially closed the special account, stating there was no longer any need for crowdfunding for the purpose.

Najib, 73, has been at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022, after the Federal Court upheld his conviction over the misappropriation of RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd.

His original sentence was 12 years’ jail and a RM210 million fine, which the Federal Territories Pardons Board reduced in January 2024 to six years and RM50 million.

Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon on September 18, permitting him to serve the rest of his term under house arrest until August 23, 2028, provided the fine and other conditions are met.
