KUALA PERLIS, Feb 27 — Perlis vows to ensure its presence in the FAM League will contribute to the development of football in the country despite it having to compete under severe financial constraints. Perlis Football Association (PFA) president Datuk Rozabil Abdul Rahman said participating in the FAM League alone could cost them more than RM1 million.
“PFA only received RM100,000 sponsorship for Corino sportswear from a local company, while the grant received from FAM is insufficient even to pay a month of the players’ salaries.
“The PFA exco lineup and I have done our best to find funds so that Perlis can compete in the national football arena and ensure that they will compete until the end of the league,” he said when asked how far PFA could last without a firm financial source.
Rozabil said this at a ceremony to introduce players, officials and the team’s jersey here today.
Perlis will face its first test in the FA Cup by playing against Penang in Penang tomorrow evening and Shahzan Muda in Kuantan on March 8.
PFA was in the spotlight last year when the players revealed its failure to pay them their salaries for six months, but the issue was eventually resolved. — Bernama
