INCHEON, Sept 28 — The Malaysian ‘Robin Hood’ trio of Khairul Anuar Mohamad, Atiq Bazil Bakri and Haziq Kamaruddin failed to equal the greatness of China’s archers in the final of the men’s team recurve at the Gyeyang Asiad Archery Field here today.

But entering the final and returning with a silver is an achievement to be proud of because it places Malaysia on the list of the best in Asia.  The Malaysian trio had to settle for the silver after losing 0-6 to China’s China Gu Xuesong, Qi Kaiyao and Yong Zhiwei.

“Overall, everything was okay. We could do our shooting and timing as during training. But China achieved almost a perfect score.

“It was definitely a tough fight. We were only targetting the semi-final and we are satisfied at making it to the final. Of course, we would have wanted to win the gold if we could,” said Khairul Anuar.

In the final, the national trio lost 54-57, 53-57 and 57-58.  Hazik, meanwhile, expressed disappointment for failing to maintain his performance today.

He said that outwardly the strength of the national and China trios appeared the same, but the Chinese archers had good self-composure and control of the game.

The bronze medal went to the South Korean trio of Ku Bonchan, Lee Seungyun and Oh Jinhyek who beat Japanese archers Takaharu Furukawa, Hideki Kikuchi and Shohei Ota. — Bernama
