LANGKAWI, Sept 8 — Myanmar SEA Games gold medallist Khairul Nizam Mohd Effendy will lead Malaysia’s charge at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea from Sept 19 to Oct 4.
A total of 13 sailors were chosen to represent Malaysia in the Asian Games.
Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA) vice president Datuk Mansor Ismail said Khairul Nizam, who is currently competing in the World Sailing Championships in Spain with team mates Amirah Hamid and Khairunetta Mohd Effendy, will head to the Asian Games when the championships end on Sept 18.
“This is the best team put together to mount a strong challenge in Asian Games,” he told reporters after sending 10 sailors for training in Kuala Lumpur, at the Langkawi International Airport, here today.
He said Malaysia hopes to improve its ranking at the sporting event and exceed the two silver and one bronze medal won at the Asian Games in China four years ago. — Bernama
