KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — The Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) will send seven golfers including three women to spearhead the country’s challenge at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea beginning on September 19.
They are Muhd Afif Mohd Razif, Muhd Wafiyuddin Abdul Manaf, Chan Tuck Soon and Low Khai Jen in the men’s category along with Nur Durriyah Damian and United States-based golfers Dianne Luke and Kelly Tan in the women’s category.
The players were selected based on their current performance in local tournaments, MGA president Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor said, adding that the association was not setting any medal targets.
“Our top player, Gavin Kyle Green will not be playing since he will be competing in his own college tournament in the United States. But I hope our players will put up a commendable performance,” he told reporters after launching the 2014 100PLUS Malaysian Junior Open Golf Championship here today.
On another note, Mohd Anwar said MGA had decided to choose Khai Jen and Kelly to compete in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, beginning tomorrow. — Bernama
