KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 — Sazali Abdul Samad, the Jalur Gemilang flag bearer at Myanmar SEA Games, believes the security situation over there is safe for Malaysian athletes.
The much decorated bodybuilder said the National Sports Council (NSC) has been monitoring the security situation in Myanmar and assured that the country is safe.
“As such, our athletes cannot use it as an excuse and can focus on winning medals at the games,” he told reporters at Gimnasium PDRM, here today.
The NSC pledged to get more information from the Malaysian Embassy in Myanmar on the attempted bombing on a mosque as reported by a foreign news agency.
The news agency reported Myanmar police on Thursday arrested three men from Rakhine region believed to be planning a bomb attack on a mosque in Yangon.
Sazali who has several Mr Universe and Mr Asia titles under his belt hopes to win the gold medal in the lightweight category (70kg).
“I will try my best. They are only 12 days left before the SEA Games starts. My top priority is nutrition to keep the body in good shape,” said the police inspector who won the Mr Universe title for the ninth time at the World Bodybuilding Championship in Hungary recently.
Sazali won the Mr Universe title in 2000, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 and the Mr Asia title in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2009, 2010 and 2012. — Bernama
