KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 — Malaysian badminton superstar Datuk Lee Chong Wei fought off a keen challenge from compatriot Chong Wei Feng to advance to the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open.
In the second round of the championship at the Hong Kong Coliseum today, Chong Wei defeated Wei Feng in straight sets of 21-12 and 21-18 in just 27 minutes.
Awaiting him in the last eight is Jan O Jorgensen from Denmark who made short work of Tien Chen Chou from Taiwan, defeating the latter in 21-14 and 21-14, according to the Badminton World Federation’s official website http://bwfbadminton.org/.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying also made to the last eight after defeating Germany’s pair of Michael Fuchs/Birgit Michels in straight sets of 22-20 22-20 in the second round.
They will be up against Chris Adcock/Gabrielle White of England who booked their berth after overcoming compatriots Andrew Ellis/Lauren Smith in 21-16 and 21-18. — Bernama
