SINGAPORE, Aug 28 — A public bus driver was assaulted while on duty earlier this month, marking the second such incident involving Go-Ahead Singapore staff in three months, local news outlet CNA reported.
Go-Ahead said the incident happened at about 5.20pm on Aug 16 while the driver was operating Service 2 between Changi Village Terminal and Kampong Bahru Terminal.
The driver sought treatment at Changi General Hospital and has since returned to work, with Go-Ahead saying it was continuing to provide him with “full support”.
The operator said a police report had been lodged but did not disclose details of the assault.
“Public transport workers deserve to be treated with respect and should never have to face abuse or violence while doing their job,” Go-Ahead said in a Facebook post yesterday.
The latest incident follows an assault on another Service 2 driver on May 23 after a passenger allegedly became angry over missing his stop.
The National Transport Workers’ Union said the driver suffered blurred vision but fortunately his injuries were not serious.
