KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 — A Malaysian romance novel that first found fans online has now made its way to television, with Yes! Captain Zul Aaryan adapted into a drama series starring Anna Jobling and Jazmy Juma.

Written by Wnfhanna, the novel began as a Wattpad hit before being published as a book in 2024, where it continued to attract readers with its enemies-to-lovers storyline between a guarded airline captain and a spirited young woman.

“Captain Zul Aaryan is a very interesting character, and I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to bring him to life on screen,” Jazmy said of taking on the role of the fictional pilot.

The actor said playing a pilot was a personal milestone, adding that the role allowed him to explore the responsibilities and challenges behind the profession.

Anna, who plays Zara Andrea, said the appeal of the story lies beyond its romance, with the characters’ relationship developing through conflicts, misunderstandings and personal growth.

“Instead, it develops through conflicts, misunderstandings, and moments that teach them about trust, sacrifice, and love,” she said.

The 30-episode series follows Captain Zul Aaryan, a disciplined pilot whose carefully controlled life changes after he crosses paths with Zara, leading the pair into an unexpected relationship.

“I hope viewers will enjoy that journey together with us,” Anna added.

Directed by Nizam Zakaria and written by Rozie Rashid, the adaptation features the aviation world as its backdrop, with filming taking place at locations including aircraft interiors, hangars and airports.

The drama premiered in TV3’s Akasia slot last Friday and also streams on iQIYI, marking another Malaysian novel making the leap from readers’ imaginations to the screen.
